Genesis Chapter26

創 世 記 26

¹ 在 亞 伯 拉 罕 的 日 子 ， 那 地 有 一 次 饑 荒 ； 這 時 又 有 饑 荒 ， 以 撒 就 往 基 拉 耳 去 ， 到 非 利 士 人 的 王 亞 比 米 勒 那 裡 。

² 耶 和 華 向 以 撒 顯 現 ， 說 ： 你 不 要 下 去 ， 要 住 在 我 所 指 示 你 的 地 。

³ 你 寄 居 在 這 地 ， 我 必 與 你 同 在 ， 賜 福 給 你 ， 因 為 我 要 將 這 些 地 都 賜 給 你 和 你 的 後 裔 。 我 必 堅 定 我 向 你 父 亞 伯 拉 罕 所 起 的 誓 。

⁴ 我 要 加 增 你 的 後 裔 ， 像 天 上 的 星 那 樣 多 ， 又 要 將 這 些 地 都 賜 給 你 的 後 裔 。 並 且 地 上 萬 國 必 因 你 的 後 裔 得 福 ─

⁵ 都 因 亞 伯 拉 罕 聽 從 我 的 話 ， 遵 守 我 的 吩 咐 和 我 的 命 令 、 律 例 、 法 度 。

⁶ 以 撒 就 住 在 基 拉 耳 。

⁷ 那 地 方 的 人 問 到 他 的 妻 子 ， 他 便 說 ： 那 是 我 的 妹 子 。 原 來 他 怕 說 ： 是 我 的 妻 子 ； 他 心 裡 想 ： 恐 怕 這 地 方 的 人 為 利 百 加 的 緣 故 殺 我 ， 因 為 他 容 貌 俊 美 。

⁸ 他 在 那 裡 住 了 許 久 。 有 一 天 ， 非 利 士 人 的 王 亞 比 米 勒 從 窗 戶 裡 往 外 觀 看 ， 見 以 撒 和 他 的 妻 子 利 百 加 戲 玩 。

⁹ 亞 比 米 勒 召 了 以 撒 來 ， 對 他 說 ： 他 實 在 是 你 的 妻 子 ， 你 怎 麼 說 他 是 你 的 妹 子 ？ 以 撒 說 ： 我 心 裡 想 ， 恐 怕 我 因 他 而 死 。

¹⁰ 亞 比 米 勒 說 ： 你 向 我 們 做 的 是 甚 麼 事 呢 ？ 民 中 險 些 有 人 和 你 的 妻 同 寢 ， 把 我 們 陷 在 罪 裡 。

¹¹ 於 是 亞 比 米 勒 曉 諭 眾 民 說 ： 凡 沾 著 這 個 人 ， 或 是 他 妻 子 的 ， 定 要 把 他 治 死 。

¹² 以 撒 在 那 地 耕 種 ， 那 一 年 有 百 倍 的 收 成 。 耶 和 華 賜 福 給 他 ，

¹³ 他 就 昌 大 ， 日 增 月 盛 ， 成 了 大 富 戶 。

¹⁴ 他 有 羊 群 牛 群 ， 又 有 許 多 僕 人 ， 非 利 士 人 就 嫉 妒 他 。

¹⁵ 當 他 父 親 亞 伯 拉 罕 在 世 的 日 子 ， 他 父 親 的 僕 人 所 挖 的 井 ， 非 利 士 人 全 都 塞 住 ， 填 滿 了 土 。

¹⁶ 亞 比 米 勒 對 以 撒 說 ： 你 離 開 我 們 去 罷 。 因 為 你 比 我 們 強 盛 得 多 。

¹⁷ 以 撒 就 離 開 那 裡 ， 在 基 拉 耳 谷 支 搭 帳 棚 ， 住 在 那 裡 。

¹⁸ 當 他 父 親 亞 伯 拉 罕 在 世 之 日 所 挖 的 水 井 因 非 利 士 人 在 亞 伯 拉 罕 死 後 塞 住 了 ， 以 撒 就 重 新 挖 出 來 ， 仍 照 他 父 親 所 叫 的 叫 那 些 井 的 名 字 。

¹⁹ 以 撒 的 僕 人 在 谷 中 挖 井 ， 便 得 了 一 口 活 水 井 。

²⁰ 基 拉 耳 的 牧 人 與 以 撒 的 牧 人 爭 競 ， 說 ： 這 水 是 我 們 的 。 以 撒 就 給 那 井 起 名 叫 埃 色 ( 就 是 相 爭 的 意 思 ) ， 因 為 他 們 和 他 相 爭 。

²¹ 以 撒 的 僕 人 又 挖 了 一 口 井 ， 他 們 又 為 這 井 爭 競 ， 因 此 以 撒 給 這 井 起 名 叫 西 提 拿 ( 就 是 為 敵 的 意 思 ) 。

²² 以 撒 離 開 那 裡 ， 又 挖 了 一 口 井 ， 他 們 不 為 這 井 爭 競 了 ， 他 就 給 那 井 起 名 叫 利 河 伯 ( 就 是 寬 闊 的 意 思 ) 。 他 說 ： 耶 和 華 現 在 給 我 們 寬 闊 之 地 ， 我 們 必 在 這 地 昌 盛 。

²³ 以 撒 從 那 裡 上 別 是 巴 去 。

²⁴ 當 夜 耶 和 華 向 他 顯 現 ， 說 ： 我 是 你 父 親 亞 伯 拉 罕 的 　 神 ， 不 要 懼 怕 ！ 因 為 我 與 你 同 在 ， 要 賜 福 給 你 ， 並 要 為 我 僕 人 亞 伯 拉 罕 的 緣 故 ， 使 你 的 後 裔 繁 多 。

²⁵ 以 撒 就 在 那 裡 築 了 一 座 壇 ， 求 告 耶 和 華 的 名 ， 並 且 支 搭 帳 棚 ； 他 的 僕 人 便 在 那 裡 挖 了 一 口 井 。

²⁶ 亞 比 米 勒 ， 同 他 的 朋 友 亞 戶 撒 和 他 的 軍 長 非 各 ， 從 基 拉 耳 來 見 以 撒 。

²⁷ 以 撒 對 他 們 說 ： 你 們 既 然 恨 我 ， 打 發 我 走 了 ， 為 甚 麼 到 我 這 裡 來 呢 ？

²⁸ 他 們 說 ： 我 們 明 明 的 看 見 耶 和 華 與 你 同 在 ， 便 說 ， 不 如 我 們 兩 下 彼 此 起 誓 ， 彼 此 立 約 ，

²⁹ 使 你 不 害 我 們 ， 正 如 我 們 未 曾 害 你 ， 一 味 的 厚 待 你 ， 並 且 打 發 你 平 平 安 安 的 走 。 你 是 蒙 耶 和 華 賜 福 的 了 。

³⁰ 以 撒 就 為 他 們 設 擺 筵 席 ， 他 們 便 吃 了 喝 了 。

³¹ 他 們 清 早 起 來 彼 此 起 誓 。 以 撒 打 發 他 們 走 ， 他 們 就 平 平 安 安 的 離 開 他 走 了 。

³² 那 一 天 ， 以 撒 的 僕 人 來 ， 將 挖 井 的 事 告 訴 他 說 ： 我 們 得 了 水 了 。

³³ 他 就 給 那 井 起 名 叫 示 巴 ； 因 此 那 城 叫 做 別 是 巴 ， 直 到 今 日 。

³⁴ 以 掃 四 十 歲 的 時 候 娶 了 赫 人 比 利 的 女 兒 猶 滴 ， 與 赫 人 以 倫 的 女 兒 巴 實 抹 為 妻 。

³⁵ 他 們 常 使 以 撒 和 利 百 加 心 裡 愁 煩 。

That night the Lord appeared to him and said, “I am the God of your father Abraham. Do not be afraid for I a with you; I will bless you and will increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham.” Genesis 26:24

Fear, frightened, hopeless, purposeless…how many more words I can find to describe our state of mind when we face with those condition we cannot control.

Jesus reviewed to me quite a number of possibilities that we may step into the trap of “fear”:
1. Following our father’s weakness – It seems that Isaac was better than his father Abram for a similar famine came he could listen and obey and stay but his father went down to Egypt without listening at all. Isaac didn’t step into the first trap but could not avoid the second one. Same condition happened and he told others that Rebecca was her sister just like what Abram did.

2. Discouraged by continuous failure – How discouraged it was when every time Isaac dug a well and he lost it to the herdsmen of Gerar. Lots of time when bad things happen again and again we might not be able to think of God’s promise to bless us but to ask, “Why? Why? Why me!”

3. Even with God’s continuous blessings and confirmation we are still afraid – See how many times God showed up and confirmed His promise and blessings. But, when bad times come our memory seems being erased! How sad! How little faith!

God says, “Do not be afraid for I am with you and I will bless you!” Without our daily intimate time with Jesus how can we live daily in this relational promise?!

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for your daily presence that I will not be afraid anymore. Help me to help more people to enter into this daily intimate relationship with you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.

DAY 270 – Is Your Name There?

創 世 記 10

¹ 挪 亞 的 兒 子 閃 、 含 、 雅 弗 的 後 代 記 在 下 面 。 洪 水 以 後 ， 他 們 都 生 了 兒 子 。² 雅 弗 的 兒 子 是 歌 篾 、 瑪 各 、 瑪 代 、 雅 完 、 土 巴 、 米 設 、 提 拉 。³ 歌 篾 的 兒 子 是 亞 實 基 拿 、 利 法 、 陀 迦 瑪 。⁴ 雅 完 的 兒 子 是 以 利 沙 、 他 施 、 基 提 、 多 單 。⁵ 這 些 人 的 後 裔 將 各 國 的 地 土 、 海 島 分 開 居 住 ， 各 隨 各 的 方 言 、 宗 族 立 國 。⁶ 含 的 兒 子 是 古 實 、 麥 西 、 弗 、 迦 南 。⁷ 古 實 的 兒 子 是 西 巴 、 哈 腓 拉 、 撒 弗 他 、 拉 瑪 、 撒 弗 提 迦 。 拉 瑪 的 兒 子 是 示 巴 、 底 但 。⁸ 古 實 又 生 寧 錄 ， 他 為 世 上 英 雄 之 首 。⁹ 他 在 耶 和 華 面 前 是 個 英 勇 的 獵 戶 ， 所 以 俗 語 說 ： 像 寧 錄 在 耶 和 華 面 前 是 個 英 勇 的 獵 戶 。¹⁰ 他 國 的 起 頭 是 巴 別 、 以 力 、 亞 甲 、 甲 尼 ， 都 在 示 拿 地 。¹¹ 他 從 那 地 出 來 往 亞 述 去 ， 建 造 尼 尼 微 、 利 河 伯 、 迦 拉 ，¹² 和 尼 尼 微 、 迦 拉 中 間 的 利 鮮 ， 這 就 是 那 大 城 。¹³ 麥 西 生 路 低 人 、 亞 拿 米 人 、 利 哈 比 人 、 拿 弗 土 希 人 、¹⁴ 帕 斯 魯 細 人 、 迦 斯 路 希 人 、 迦 斐 託 人 ； 從 迦 斐 託 出 來 的 有 非 利 士 人 。¹⁵ 迦 南 生 長 子 西 頓 ， 又 生 赫¹⁶ 和 耶 布 斯 人 、 亞 摩 利 人 、 革 迦 撒 人 、¹⁷ 希 未 人 、 亞 基 人 、 西 尼 人 、¹⁸ 亞 瓦 底 人 、 洗 瑪 利 人 、 哈 馬 人 ， 後 來 迦 南 的 諸 族 分 散 了 。¹⁹ 迦 南 的 境 界 是 從 西 頓 向 基 拉 耳 的 路 上 ， 直 到 迦 薩 ， 又 向 所 多 瑪 、 蛾 摩 拉 、 押 瑪 、 洗 扁 的 路 上 ， 直 到 拉 沙 。²⁰ 這 就 是 含 的 後 裔 ， 各 隨 他 們 的 宗 族 、 方 言 ， 所 住 的 地 土 、 邦 國 。²¹ 雅 弗 的 哥 哥 閃 ， 是 希 伯 子 孫 之 祖 ， 他 也 生 了 兒 子 。²² 閃 的 兒 子 是 以 攔 、 亞 述 、 亞 法 撒 、 路 德 、 亞 蘭 。²³ 亞 蘭 的 兒 子 是 烏 斯 、 戶 勒 、 基 帖 、 瑪 施 。²⁴ 亞 法 撒 生 沙 拉 ； 沙 拉 生 希 伯 。²⁵ 希 伯 生 了 兩 個 兒 子 ， 一 個 名 叫 法 勒 ( 法 勒 就 是 分 的 意 思 ) ， 因 為 那 時 人 就 分 地 居 住 ； 法 勒 的 兄 弟 名 叫 約 坍 。²⁶ 約 坍 生 亞 摩 答 、 沙 列 、 哈 薩 瑪 非 、 耶 拉 、²⁷ 哈 多 蘭 、 烏 薩 、 德 拉 、²⁸ 俄 巴 路 、 亞 比 瑪 利 、 示 巴 、²⁹ 阿 斐 、 哈 腓 拉 、 約 巴 ， 這 都 是 約 坍 的 兒 子 。³⁰ 他 們 所 住 的 地 方 是 從 米 沙 直 到 西 發 東 邊 的 山 。³¹ 這 就 是 閃 的 子 孫 ， 各 隨 他 們 的 宗 族 、 方 言 ， 所 住 的 地 土 、 邦 國 。³² 這 些 都 是 挪 亞 三 個 兒 子 的 宗 族 ， 各 隨 他 們 的 支 派 立 國 。 洪 水 以 後 ， 他 們 在 地 上 分 為 邦 國 。

The Family Tree of Noah’s Sons

¹ This is the family tree of the sons of Noah: Shem, Ham, and Japheth. After the flood, they themselves had sons.² The sons of Japheth: Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, Tiras. ³ The sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, Riphath, Togarmah.^4-5 The sons of Javan: Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, Rodanim. The seafaring peoples developed from these, each in its own place by family, each with its own language.⁶ The sons of Ham: Cush, Egypt, Put, Canaan.⁷ The sons of Cush: Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, Sabteca.The sons of Raamah: Sheba, Dedan.^8-12 Cush also had Nimrod. He was the first great warrior on Earth. He was a great hunter before God. There was a saying, “Like Nimrod, a great hunter before God.” His kingdom got its start with Babel; then Erech, Akkad, and Calneh in the country of Shinar. From there he went up to Asshur and built Nineveh, Rehoboth Ir, Calah, and Resen between Nineveh and the great city Calah.^13-14 Egypt was ancestor to the Ludim, the Anamim, the Lehabim, the Naphtuhim, the Pathrusim, the Casluhim (the origin of the Philistines), and the Kaphtorim.^15-19 Canaan had Sidon his firstborn, Heth, the Jebusites, the Amorites, the Girgashites, the Hivites, the Arkites, the Sinites, the Arvadites, the Zemarites, and the Hamathites. Later the Canaanites spread out, going from Sidon toward Gerar, as far south as Gaza, and then east all the way over to Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, Zeboiim, and on to Lasha.

²⁰ These are the descendants of Ham by family, language, country, and nation.²¹ Shem, the older brother of Japheth, also had sons. Shem was ancestor to all the children of Eber.²² The sons of Shem: Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.²³ The sons of Aram: Uz, Hul, Gether, Meshech.^24-25 Arphaxad had Shelah and Shelah had Eber. Eber had two sons, Peleg (so named because in his days the human race divided) and Joktan.^26-30 Joktan had Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah, Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah, Obal, Abimael, Sheba, Ophir, Havilah, and Jobab—all sons of Joktan. Their land goes from Mesha toward Sephar as far as the mountain ranges in the east.³¹ These are the descendants of Shem by family, language, country, and nation.³² This is the family tree of the sons of Noah as they developed into nations. From them nations developed all across the Earth after the flood.

These are the clans of Noah’s sons, according to their lines of descent, within their nations.

From these the nations spread out over the earth after the flood. Genesis 10: 32

Verse 32 shows the purpose of this chapter. According to the Expositor’s Bible Commentary
“All those names is to give the reader a panoramic view of the nations as a backdrop for
the remainder of the events of the Book of Genesis.”

Most people do not even read this chapter for they don’t think there is much important in
those names and have no time to find what is so important to those names. So skip!

What Jesus shows me today are two things:

1. Why some names are important and recorded in the Bible but others don’t. How important is our name and the names of our children and children’s children to the Kingdom of God? We don’t care for name but this kind of name we need to be very careful.

2. Why among the seven sons of Japhethites only two sons names are recorded? Same thing appears at Ham. He had four sons but only Cush was there and then Cush had five sons and only Raamah was there. What happened? Were they corrupted, no good…? I looked at some commentaries but I can’t find a good answer. What I got is to think of Exodus 20: 5-6 of the importance of our role to our clan:

You shall not bow down to the idols or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the fathers to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

You need to put more time to your family and to raise up your children to be good disciples of Christ instead of running here and there to be a workaholic doing lots of things but accomplish nothing.

Dear Lord Jesus,
Help me to raise up my sons and my grandchildren to be good disciples of you.
In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
